We happened upon a fascinating scene-- egrets riding on the wild ponies at Assoteague. I guess the egrets eat bugs off of the horses :) But they all seemed to be talking to each other, the horses carefully avoided stepping on the birds. The birds were not afraid to be at the feet of the horses and stayed on the horses back as the horses walked around. In the kayaks we were able to glide up very close without reaction from the horses or egrets.
